Every regulated exchange requires identity verification. Have these ready — you'll enter them directly on the platform's official website, never here.
Required by all platforms
Security reminder: Always type the platform URL directly into your browser. Never click links from emails or ads. Verify the address carefully before entering any personal information. When in doubt, don't.
Here's your personalized summary and your chosen platform's sign-up link.

A complete step-by-step walkthrough for absolute beginners using Coinbase — the most beginner-friendly US exchange. Every click, every screen, exactly what to expect.
Why $50? Starting small lets you learn how everything works without risking money you can't afford to lose. You'll experience buying, watching your balance move, and understanding fees — without significant financial risk. You can always add more once you're comfortable.
Open your browser and type coinbase.com directly into the address bar. Do not search for it — type it directly to avoid fake sites. Verify you see a padlock icon in your browser's address bar before doing anything.
Click "Get started" on the Coinbase homepage. Enter your email address and create a strong password — at least 12 characters mixing letters, numbers, and symbols. Write it down somewhere safe. You'll receive a verification email — click the link inside it to confirm your address.
Coinbase will prompt you to set up 2FA. This means every login requires your password plus a code sent to your phone. This is critical — do not skip it. Choose SMS (text message) for simplicity. Every major crypto hack targeting regular users involves accounts without 2FA.
Coinbase is required by law to verify who you are. Click "Verify ID" and follow the prompts. You'll need your driver's license or passport and a selfie. This usually takes 5–10 minutes, occasionally up to 24 hours — this is normal.
Click "Add payment method" and choose between a bank account (ACH — free but takes 3–5 days) or debit card (instant but higher fee). For your first $50, a debit card is fine so you can experience the whole process quickly. For larger amounts later, connect your bank to save on fees.
Click "Buy / Sell" at the top. Select Bitcoin (BTC). Enter $50 as the dollar amount — you'll see exactly how much Bitcoin that buys at today's price. Review the fee shown. Click "Preview Buy", review everything, then click "Buy now" to confirm.
Watch your balance for a few weeks before doing anything else. Read the Glossary on this site to understand terms you encounter. When ready to buy more, use bank transfer instead of debit card to save on fees. Never invest more than you can completely afford to lose.

Crypto scammers specifically target people who are new to the space. Knowing how these scams work is your best defense. If something sounds too good to be true, it always is.
Someone promises to send back double what you send them — often impersonating a celebrity like Elon Musk on social media. No legitimate person or organization ever doubles your money. Ever.
Red flags:
Scammers create websites that look identical to real exchanges like Coinbase or Kraken. You enter your login details and they steal your account — and all your crypto.
Red flags:
Someone meets you online — often a dating app or social media — and builds a relationship over weeks. They then introduce you to a "great crypto investment opportunity." Once you've invested, they disappear with your money. This scam has cost victims millions of dollars.
Red flags:
You post a question about crypto on social media. Someone posing as customer support contacts you offering help — then asks for your login credentials or seed phrase to "fix" your account.
Red flags:
A group buys a little-known cryptocurrency, aggressively promotes it to drive the price up, then sells everything — crashing the price and leaving late buyers with worthless coins.
Red flags:
Developers create a new cryptocurrency with promises of revolutionary technology. People invest. The developers drain all the funds and disappear. The token becomes worthless overnight.
Red flags:

GetCoinReady exists because I couldn't find the plain-English guide I needed when I first wanted to understand crypto. So I built it myself.
You know that saying — if you want to be successful, find a problem, provide a solution, and the rest takes care of itself? I'd heard that my whole life and honestly never thought I had that one idea worth building something around. Then one day, almost out of nowhere, two thoughts collided in my head at the same time. I'd been thinking about how people were actually using AI to get things done, and at the same moment I thought about how much I'd always wanted to get serious about crypto. And then it hit me — what if I used AI to learn about crypto? Not just to look things up, but to really dig in, let it anticipate what I needed to know before I even thought to ask, and use it to fast-track the whole learning process.
The more I sat with that idea, the more excited I got. And then it grew into something bigger. I started thinking about all the people out there who were in the same boat I'd been in — curious about crypto, maybe even eager, but not sure where to start and a little put off by how complicated it all seemed. Then I thought, “What if I built something specifically for them?” Something honest, plain-English, and free of all the hype. That's exactly what I set out to do, and GetCoinReady is the result.
This site is designed to walk you through the entire process from start to finish — at your pace, on your terms. When you're ready to choose a platform and start the sign-up process, we'll point you in the right direction. If you run into questions along the way, come back and ask. Finish your sign-up, and feel free to keep coming back with questions until you're done and settled in. Already signed up and something's not making sense? We're still here. As long as we're able to keep the lights on, this is a resource you can return to at any stage of your crypto journey.
I'm not new to this world, by the way. Back in late 2017 and into 2018 I took my first real shot at crypto during that big Bitcoin surge everyone was talking about. I made a little, lost a little, and mostly just spun my wheels. I didn't really understand what I was doing, I didn't know anyone who could help me, and I didn't have AI to lean on. On top of that I'd just bought another business and between the time, the money, and the energy it demanded, crypto quietly fell off my radar. I walked away telling myself I'd come back to it when the timing was better.
Eight years went by. And during those eight years I watched from the sidelines as opportunity after opportunity passed me by. I won't sugarcoat it — there were moments where it genuinely felt like the world was moving faster than I could keep up with and that I'd missed my shot for good. That feeling of being left behind, of thinking you're too far back to ever really catch up — I know I'm not the only one who's felt that. If you're reading this there's a decent chance you know exactly what I'm talking about.
But here's what changed for me. Instead of putting this idea on the shelf for a “better time” like I'd done before, a small voice in the back of my head asked a simple question — why wait? Just start. See if it's doable. So I did.
I won't pretend I built this alone or that it was easy. I have a background in IT which helped me know how to work with AI effectively — how to ask the right questions, push back when needed, and dig deeper than the surface answer. But the technical heavy lifting of building an actual website and everything that comes with it? That took AI as a real working partner, not just a search engine. And that's actually the other thing I want this project to stand for — proof that someone without a development background and without a big budget can bring a real idea to life if they're willing to learn and put in the work. I think a lot of great ideas never see the light of day simply because the person who had them didn't know how to build them. That bothers me. It shouldn't be that way.
GetCoinReady is a living site. It learns from the questions you ask and gets better over time. My goal isn't to be the authority on crypto or to push you toward any particular platform — it's to give you honest, straightforward information so you can make your own decisions. The AI assistant is here for your questions. The guides are here to walk you through things step by step. And yes, there will always be more to add and more to improve — that's the whole point.
One more thing I want to be upfront about. The affiliate links on this site — the buttons that take you to Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini and the rest — are how the lights stay on. If you find something useful here and sign up for a service or buy a product through one of my links, I may earn a small referral fee. It doesn't cost you anything extra and it never influences what I recommend. That's a promise.
If this site helps even one person feel less lost about crypto than I did for eight years, that's a win. Tell your friends. Use the AI chat. Ask the questions you've been embarrassed to ask anywhere else. There are no dumb questions here.
Now go have fun.
